Sunday was Jake's 28th birthday, but since Jake and Beka went away for the weekend, last night was the first available time for us to celebrate with him. He and Beka came over for dinner, along with our cousin Chloe', who is from Hawaii and is now living in Corvallis, attending Oregon State. Mark wrote a poem to Jake in his birthday card which reads:
There once was a man named Jake
Who answered to the nickname "Snake."
His birthday was on Sunday,
But we celebrate on Tuesday.
Oh well, what the hake!
We enjoyed homemade vegetable soup, two kinds of Mark's homemade bread, and salad. For dessert, we had mini lava cakes and ice cream. Happy Birthday, Jake! Thanks for being born! :-)

The infamous triple bunk bed, handcrafted by Mark, and soon to be dismantled and sold. Mark and I are going to do some rearranging in David's old bedroom, so the bunks have got to go. We have so many memories of our three boys in those beds. Jake wanted some pictures before they are gone.

Jake in the middle bunk, showing the lights Mark mounted above each bunk so the boys could read at night.

WE LOVE OUR KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

"Retiring" has given me a lot more time to consider what has been and what is significant in my life. More and more I see that it is exactly the sorts of things you have included in this post: relationship stuff. And when we are blessed to have children, there are all these incredible memories that we are better able to remember because we remember kids ages when this or that happened. Then there are the new milestones like dismantling and selling the three tier bunk bed. I really loved the post with all five baby pictures. Isn't it astounding how the decades of love and relationship have piled up and keep piling up? Your family is a wonderful testimony to the glory of God.
WHAT!? NO MORE TRIPLE BUNK BEDS? you guys are crazy... are you selling my bed, too?
Hannah - they are selling you as soon as you get back from Germania.
PS - Jake, good job on getting borned.
